Take Advantage of the Aussie Dollar
With the Australian Dollar at an all time high, now is the time to do some international shopping from the comfort of your own home and save! Many overseas websites are taking advantage of the strong interest from Australian customers and are offering free (or very cheap) shipping to Australia.
An increasing number of international webites are now making it possible to shop in Australian dollars, so you can instantly see what something costs, without having to convert it from US dollars in your head.
This list of online favourites is by no means only for Australians, but my focus is on those sites that will ship to Australia for a reasonable price.
1. shopbop.com
Shipping to Aus: Free for orders over $100, (or $10 for orders under $100)
Shopbop sells Women's clothing, shoes and accessories (no menswear, sorry guys). It also sells a small range of gift ideas (candles etc).
If you're looking for bargains, you can filter your search by items on sale as well as by size. Probably the best site I've found for it's easy to use filters - no need to wade through pages of goods you're not interested in.
Delivery is incredibly fast - often I've received my goods within a week!
Shopbop has an incredible range of designers, both low and high-end. There's many designers on this site we simply don't have in Australia.
You can shop in Aussie dollars, so you know what you're really spending.
2. revolveclothing.com
Shipping to Aus: Free on orders over $100 (or $10 for orders under $100).
Revolveclothing.com offers a HUGE range of Men's and Women's clothing, accessories and shoes.
The good news is that it's easy to find what you want. Like shopbop, Revolve has filters to find what you really want. Filter by size, colour, style, brand, price, percentage off - you name it, it's possible. Looking for a one-shoulder dress? Animal print? Select your search options and bingo! Your choices are listed for you.
Revolve clothing has a great range of designers for all price ranges. And the sales! In my one-shoulder dress search, I found gorgeous Halston Heritage dresses for under $300!!
3. saksfifthavenue.com
Shipping to Aus: $20 express shipping on orders of $99 or more, using a promotional code that changes monthly.
I've just added Saks Fifth Avenue to my list as of May 2012, as they usually have a special promotional shipping code at the top of their website. This allows for your order to be shipped express for just $20.
They sell almost everything, although some things may not be shipped to Australia.
Saks is one of the premium department stores in the US, but thanks to their Saks 'Fashionfix' alerts, you can shop for luxury labels at a fraction of the original price. Only thing is, most good items sell out fast, so you don't want to wait too long. Sign up for their fashionfix alerts.
4. asos.com
Shipping to Aus: Free to Australia, regardless of the value of your order!
Now with a dedicated Australian site, Asos sells Men's and Women's clothing, shoes and accessories. Asos offers their own brand which is stylish and great value, as well as over 850 other brands. Need some direction? Look in their 'Style Inspiration' section.
I don't find as many great labels as the two sites mentioned above, but it is still one of the most popular sites for online shopping.
Detailed filters make it easy to quickly select what you are looking for.
5. strawberrynet.com
Shipping to Aus: Free, except for fragrances.
One of the best sites for fragrance, skincare and makeup shopping. At strawberrynet.com you can buy top brands for a fraction of what you pay for them in Australia.
I can say from experience that their customer service is fantastic, and if you have a problem with your order they will happily solve it for you.
A loyalty discount is offered which increases with each order until you reach a whopping 10% discount on each order. A discount is also offered for larger orders.
You can shop in Australian dollars on strawberrynet, so you can see what you are saving!
6. freepeople.com
Shipping to Aus: Flat $35US shipping - so you may as well shop up big to get the most out of your shipping buck!
A Women's clothing, shoes and accessories site. This website is so darn pretty, it makes you want to buy a peasant-style sundress and do some folk art, or strum a guitar! The look is kind of eclectic bohemian, and they have a great range of items that are a little bit different. It's mainly their own brands, but they also have some other 'under-the-radar' brands that fit their look as well. Freepeople also offers vintage (pre-loved) clothing. They always have great items on sale. The site has fashion lookbooks to help you pull your style together.
Freepeople don't have as detailed filters as some of the other sites, but they do offer sub-categories within categories to refine your searches.
6. victoriassecret.com
Shipping: Shipping is based on the dollar value of your order. For example, orders $0-$75 (US) incur a $27.99 shipping fee, US $175.01-$250 incurs a $46.99 shipping fee and so on.
Okay, so shipping for Victoria's Secret is not as cheap as the other sites I've listed here, but their prices are so reasonable, even with shipping, it's worth it. You can't shop in Australian dollars either, but I still love this site. There is a fantastic range of lingerie, swimwear, clothing, shoes and sleepwear.
Beware!
Be wary of sites that use Fifty-One as their shipping agent. Nordstrom, Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn just to name a few, use Fifty-one, and I usually find that the cost of shipping the item is more than the cost of the item itself. I usually get as far as the checkout, see the cost of the shipping and cancel my entire order. If other sites can ship for less, than surely these stores can too! I am keeping a hopeful eye on them, and will update this hub if they reduce their shipping costs.
